Bicycle Bridge concept design - Seattle, The United States

Date: December 2022, 4th year at BUas

Client: City of Seattle

Reason: New cycle connection between SODO and North-Beacon hill, West Seattle

Project status: na

During my minor at Breda University,  one of the assignments assigned by Seattle-based urban planners from the city hall was to create a new cycling connection between Borth-Beacon Hill and West Seattle cutting across the SODO industrial area. Early on in the project, it became clear that the connectivity of segments of the city had been weakened by the geography of the area. The initial idea was not to integrate SODO within the city.  It was my responsibility to develop a reasonable and affordable solution to not only connect the two neighbourhoods but also allow this connection to be an entrance to the SODO area. I decided to push the limits of cycle mobility and create a cycle lane stairway to overcome the steep hill that separates the areas. It was challenging to apply a solution to this geography without having in-depth knowledge of the exact geography.  This cycle bridge is meant to show the city of Seattle the opportunities to connect neighbourhoods instead of seperating them.
